Lawyer Up: Learning Interpretation and Critical Thinking Skills
What is this project?
This is a proposal for a serious game that helps train Law students on the interpretation of the Law, born of my experience of law school, which prioritized memorization with the assumption that interpretation skills would develop in the long run with practice. To help young aspiring lawyers and judges develop their interpreting, I proposed this app, a serious game (the denomination for games made to develop specific skills) which is built around providing different methods of testing those skills within the framework of user driven practice plans inspired by gym exercise plans.

How was it made?
Here is the process followed to elaborate this Research Report
Preliminary Research
This research was oriented towards exploring different methods of interpreting the law, as well as methods for teaching critical thinking skills, and gauging how relevant the niche this game intends to fill is.
Game Design
In this phase, I developed several concepts for the game and the different testing methods for the training and development of the different skills associated with interpreting the law.
Idea refinement and developement
Of the selected ideas, I started to build the general idea, as well as some of the overarching engagement methods, as in, the elements of the app’s structure that not only stitch the different types of training together, but that also provide and support intrinsic rewards that incentivize the user to return to the app and its training plans as a way to facilitate practice and make it feel more rewarding for the user.
Visual Developement
After having a more concrete version of the game’s functions, I started to develop a distinctive visual identity, focusing on creating something that could be both eye-catching but that would also allow for comfortable reading, given that it is the primary means of interacting with the game’s concepts.
Documenting and Presenting
With the elements of the idea outlined, and the visual style developed, I could then move on to the work of building the requisite design documentation.

Main
How was it made?
The development of this game concept came as a result of the Serious Game Design course I took as part of my Interactive Product Design Degree. I decided to make this game specifically because of my experiences in Law School, which gave me some experience on the subject matter, which I complemented with additional research.
